Lazy Sunday

I know... I didn't get a chance to put up a Saturday Art post this week, but I promise to make up for it by having another art contest next week!

Until then, I am trying to stop cruising the internet and get some actual writing done today.

As you may have read, I am easily distracted by the internet.

What distractions get to you when you're trying to write? Are they legitimate distractions, or like me is it just a way to procrastinate when you're at a tough spot in the writing?

For me it's the internet! That one is the worst!

And then my dogs when they have to go out. They sit at my feet as I type and stare up at me until I take them out. But taking them out lets me think about new ideas to write, so it's not that bad.

I'm thinking about doing one of those applications for the computer that function as a typewriter. No internet for me! It's my biggest distraction for sure!!

Paul Graham wrote about that--he uses two computers. One with no internet connection, *just* a computer so he can get work done. He may even have them in separate rooms. He also has a good article on procrastination (I found his essays by typing "procrastination" into Google...). Check him out--he's a really good essayist, whether you're into tech or not (my favorite was "The Age of the Essay").

I'll post this news again, because I'm not sure Ann saw it : go to www.ted.com--
TED Talks put up J.K. Rowling's commencement speech she just gave at Harvard!! Really inspiring (and, in places, funny:)). It's about 20 minutes long-- and *well* worth the time. Sorry--more distractions!! But this is worth it--I swear!!

The Internet is definitely a huge distraction for me, too. I've found that I get so much more work done when I am away from the computer.

The Internet is baaaad. So are other books.

This next weekend is my final full, read-aloud edit. I'm going to have to give my husband the ether cord.

Oooh, Stephanie, that's exciting! Let us know how it goes!

And my sister (YokohamaMama) is totally feeding my addiction ;-P But I'll consider it research because it's listening to an author speak, right? lol.

Sounds like evryone else has internet distraction issues too... at least I'm not alone!

My kids are the distraction from my writing. Or is the writing distracting me from the kids?
